P.s.

Just a quick note to say that all images on the blog side bar are ones that I find inspiring/want, and are courtesy of either Guess advertisments or the louis Vuitton website. x

A lesson learnt

So, another few months of blogging over, and nearly the end of term. Sort of.

I feel that a reflection is needed on this year.
I have enjoyed this year and focussing on the promotional side of fashion-sewing definitely was not for me! However, I think in a way I'm even more confused now then I was at the beginning of the year about what I want to do as my career. I know I want it to be in styling some how, and i have expressed an interest in music video styling and shop stylist. But I keep changing my mind every time I think of something new!! I think this shows I need to get some more work placement in this field of work, to help me decide and make up my mind.

I have realised this year some very important characteristics about myself.
One of the things I've realised I REALLY REALLY need to work on is my organisational skills!!!
Something I have always been appalling at, and really needs to be improved if I want to get the career I've always wanted. With this in mind I have started keeping a folder of magazine rip outs, including poses, photography, hair/make up, styling ideas, magazine layouts and a list of shops and retail websites that I find inspiring.

The second is my attention span. I'm a naturally hyper person, and find it really hard to concentrate on any one thing longer then about 15 mins and need something new to do all the time. This has meant that I have found it quite hard to motivate myself with some of my uni work as I often feel I'm stuck on the same thing for ages. This has taught me though that when a new brief comes about, I really need to just go straight home and work work work, getting all research done quickly but thoroughly so I can move on to the next part and don't become bored and unmotivated. Something I hadn't really realised until this year.

On the plus, I have opened up to different careers that I hadn't considered, have realised where I need to improve and have vaguely worked out how to use photoshop with the trend book project (quite an achievement for a computer paranoid girl!) Until next time!!

CV

This is my CV, I've tried to include the topics which I think are most relevant and required. Obviously, the layout needs improving to make it less boring and more fashion appropriate, however I am currently unsure on how to do this, trying to think of an original creative idea.

80s magazine layout/photoshoot

My magazine layout that Tammy gave us some very useful feedback on, as blogged earlier. Mine was 80s fashion based. Using Elle as my magazine inspiration.

Career Path plus

Earlier on I blogged about my 5 year plan. However after reading an article on styling, and going back home to work over the easter(i'm waitress) it made me think that I would still like to persue a music video styling career. However, I realised that I a. am quite a people person, therefore I like working with other people, and helping other people, making them happy. b. i love styling and fashion, and c. i love shopping and helping my friends put outfits together. With my friends often asking me to help them choose an outfit and accessories for a night out.
Therefore, being a personal shopper/ in store stylists seems like the ideal job for me.
I think I would be well suited to this as apart from the above factors, I always when asked for opinion on outfits etc, take into consideration the persons body shape, their own personal style and where they going to make sure the outfit is suitable. Plus, my friends know when they ask me that I would honestly tell them if they look good or not, if said garment makes them look pregnant or not. Obviously dealing with the public I would be more constructive in criticising them then my friends!!

Shop work experience would help in this, so maybe something I should look for, however funnily enough waitressing gives you a lot of skills that could easily help with this career. Working under pressure (easter mondays are never preety where I work!), snobby or stressy customers ("waitresses are the scum of the earth" lady/ or the classic 5 other tables were here before me but no I need my food now, first!), and of course always smiling, being polite and getting the customer everything they desire!!

PPRD questions

For our end of year show video we were asked to think about these questions, which I thought would be useful to blog.

  • Describe yourself in 3 words- bubbly, friendly, relaxed.
  • Briefly describe your professional project- Researching into an iconic designer ( Dolce and Gabbanna in my case), taking inspiration somehow from this, and using it to influence a photoshoot that I have styled. Personall edge for me-music as this is what I'm really inspired by.
  • Describe in 3 words what fashion means to you- fun, personall and
  • Talk us through your 5 year plan-

Another year at Bournemouth to get a Ba in fashion, and more experience, building up my portfolio.

After this possiblity of taking a year out-work to earn money, if possible get paid work placements for a few months, followed by a few months of travelling before I go into a proper paid job.

Following this I hope to get a job in music video styling. Gain contacts, and build up my portfolio and confidence through this.

Carry on doing this for a number of year. Ultimately I want to live in America at some point in my life, preferably LA, so over the nexr few years I want to work up to being able to get jobs over there. Seeing as alot of the muscians I like and whos style I admire are based in America it would be ideal to be over there.
